Metal braces
When you think of ways of straightening your teeth, the first image that may come to mind is traditional metal braces. While many options are available for straightening your teeth, metal braces are the most common.
At Reflections Orthodontics of Clarksville and Pleasant View, Tennessee, our experienced team is eager to help you achieve your perfect smile with braces and will make you feel comfortable and confident throughout every step of your treatment plan.
Are metal braces the right choice for you?
Whether you are a pre-teen looking to start aligning your teeth or would like to improve your teeth later in life, braces are an excellent option for patients of all ages. Dr. Blackman, Dr. McCormack or Dr. Theivakumar may recommend that you receive braces if you are experiencing:
- Crooked teeth
- Overbite, underbite or crossbite
- Spacing issues such as gaps or overcrowding
Traditional braces offer many benefits for patients, such as moving your teeth slowly over time to avoid discomfort in your gums. Metal braces are a durable solution for aligning your teeth and can tolerate high amounts of pressure without chipping or cracking. Using braces also allows your orthodontists better control over the direction of your teeth and aligning difficult areas.
Due to many advancements in orthodontic technology, braces are smaller and much more comfortable than they used to be. Many of our patients like to customize their braces with colored elastics that we can change with each appointment. As one of the most durable options for correcting orthodontic issues, metal braces often cost less than an aligner. If your insurance covers orthodontic care, your cost for braces may be even lower.
Our metal braces treatment plans
After applying metal braces, your orthodontist will periodically tighten an archwire attached to metal brackets on your teeth. Over time, your jaw shape will change to conform to this tightening and allow your teeth to move into the correct position. The amount of time your orthodontist requests you wear your braces will depend on the condition of your teeth. If you follow your orthodontist’s instructions and attend regular appointments, your treatment time will be as short as possible.
Once your teeth are in the proper alignment, you will receive a retainer to wear on a temporary or permanent basis. This retainer helps maintain the new position of your teeth to keep your smile looking beautiful.
Cost of traditional braces
The cost of your metal braces will depend on factors such as your insurance plan and if you require tests such as X-rays or imaging. Braces are an investment in the health of your teeth. By straightening your teeth, you will also correct bite issues and make teeth cleaning easier, leading to fewer cavities and helping you save money at your dentist’s office.
